Veteran Support and Healing Arts: Veteran's Art Center kicks off Mental Illness Awareness Week

A new feature will be blog postings 'Mother to Mother' by Mavis McDowell.
Mavis is a Blue Star Mother with degrees in multi-level education, including Learning Disabilities and Emotionally Disturbed - school populations she taught for 20 years. Mavis has a Master’s in Counseling and worked in a home for traumatic brain injured youth. She is certified in (CISM) Crisis Intervention Stress Management and (CERT) Community Emergency Response Training. Both Mavis and her husband Both my husband and myself come from military families that have served this country since the revolution and continue to serve with honor and distinction. Currently serving are 2 Sailors, 1 Soldier, 1 Marine, and 1 Airman. Mavis brings a wealth of personal experience and extensive research to her column.
